Leadership Hour is a bi-weekly series of leadership workshops scheduled throughout the fall and spring semesters. Workshops cover a variety of topics related to leadership as an individual, as well as leadership through team membership. Topics for Leadership Hour workshops will include leadership styles, team building, group dynamics, goal setting and more.
Workshops-to –go provides workshops for any entity on-campus including, but not limited to, student organization meetings, department meetings, and classes. Requests for workshops need to be made two weeks prior to presentation date in order for UCSA staff to prepare. Below is a list of commonly requested workshops, but requests for specific topics not listed can be made as well. To request a workshop, please fill out this request form on I-Engage.
Leadership Excursions are one-day comprehensive strength and critical thinking experience for students and organizations. It provides leadership training for personal development which consists of fun indoor and outdoor activities. These activities help increase students self-awareness, and confidence to support decision-making/team building.
The Islander Leadership Conference is a free, day-long, opportunity for students to attend a variety of breakout sessions on general leadership topics, as well as an impactful keynote address by a featured speaker. Each year the conference focuses on a different theme. Past conferences have highlighted communication, decision making, ethical leadership, and inclusion, and how these topics relate to effective leadership.
The National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) is the nation's largest leadership honor society. Students are selected by their college for membership based on academic standing and leadership potential. Candidacy is a nationally recognized achievement of honorable distinction. With 519 chapters, the Society currently has 667,083 members nationwide. TAMUCC won Chapter of the Year in 2016 out of all of the chapters in the country!
Invitations will be sent out at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters. In addition to honorable distinction, the Society provides a step-by-step program for members to build their leadership skills through participation at their campus or online. Upon completion of the program, members receive their leadership certificate and take their place among the top student leaders at their campus and across the country. Members are able to list their affiliation on all statements of personal accomplishment, including their resume.
Membership is for life and provides access to benefits including scholarships and awards, exclusive on-campus events, employer recruitment through an online job bank, and discounts on computers, textbooks, grad school prep courses, insurance and much more.
