Standards of Excellence 

Fraternities and sororities submit their participation and achievements in the following categories to achieve Standards of Excellence Awards.  These awards are given out on a point system developed specifically for each standard.  To see last year’s winners, please see the Greek Awards Page.

Standard: Award:
Scholarship:

All fraternities and sororities must have a minimum cumulative, semester and new member GPA of 2.5

3.0 and above = Gold Standard

2.8-2.999 = Silver Standard

2.6-2.799 = Bronze Standard

2.5 is the minimum acceptable before academic probation

Service:

All fraternities and sororities must participate in community service, according to National/HQ standards

21-30 hours per member per semester = Gold Standard

11-20 hours per member per semester = Silver Standard

10 hours per member per semester = Bronze Standard

Engagement:

Fraternities and sororities will be supportive of campus community events

Qualifying events would include philanthropy events, campus-wide events and other university sponsored events. Social events and events with alcohol would not qualify. Twenty percent of the chapter must be present to get credit for the event.

15 and above events = Gold Standard

9-14 = Silver Standard

5-8 = Bronze Standard

Leadership:

Fraternity and sorority members will be leaders on campus

Chapters will report the number of leadership workshops each organization has attended and/or hosted. All leadership workshops will be reviewed for eligibility. If a workshop is not hosted by the chapter, 20% of the chapter membership must be in attendance.

9 or more events = Gold Standard

6-8 = Silver Standard

3-5 = Bronze Standard

Philanthropy:

Fraternities and sororities are encouraged to report money raised for their philanthropies

The highest grossing chapter in each council will receive the SOE Philanthropy award. Special recognition will be given to the highest grossing chapter of the three.

Diversity & Inclusion:

Fraternities and sororities are committed to being inclusive and support cultural education and diversity

Chapters that attend 5 events per year (approved by Greek advisors). In order to receive credit, 50% of the chapter needs to be in attendance.

Prevention:

Fraternities and sororities will take an active role in preventing alcohol and drug abuse and sexual misconduct

Chapters will report the number of prevention workshops held in their chapter or that members attend. All prevention workshops will be reviewed for eligibility. If a workshop is not hosted by the chapter, 20% of members must be in attendance.

6 or more events = Gold Standard

4-5 = Silver Standard

2-3 = Bronze Standard
